Kinesio Tex Classic vs. Kinesio Tex Gold FP

Adhesive cross section: Kinesio Tex FP
Adhesive cross section: Kinesio Tex Classic For over 30 years, the original design and specifications of Kinesio Tape remained the same. During this time, Kinesio Tex Classic revolutionized the practice of therapeutic taping and became the global leader in the kinesiology tape industry. When manufacturing technology recently caught up to the advancements in modern taping theory, Kinesio decided it was time to produce a product with advanced features that lent itself to these new techniques. Thus, in 2013, Kinesio Tex Gold FP was introduced, providing an additional option for kinesiology tape users. While Kinesio Tex Classic remains the best-selling consumer kinesiology tape in the world, Kinesio Tex Gold FP’s advanced technology is designed for clinicians dealing with diverse and more complex issues.

3 Differences between Kinesio Tex Classic and Kinesio Tex Gold FP

Adhesive pattern - Kinesio Tex FP
Adhesive pattern - Kinesio Tex FP The Adhesive The adhesive in Kinesio Tex Classic is applied in the traditional wave pattern that transmits sensory stimulation into the skin and allows moisture to flow easily from the tape. The “FP” in Kinesio Tex Gold FP stands for Finger Print, a pattern similar to the swirls on human fingertips. The result is deeper penetration into the dermal and fascial layers, enhancing the benefits, especially for neurological conditions. In addition, the adhesive in FP is actually set into the fabric, rather than simply on the surface, like Classic. This “deep-set” adhesive creates a micro-grip hold that enables FP to have a stronger adhesive without being overly aggressive on the skin, allowing for longer wear times. There’s also less adhesive per square inch, which creates a more breathable fabric. The FabricKinesioTexFP While both tapes are made from cotton with acrylic adhesive backing, Kinesio Tex Gold FP is made of a higher thread-count cotton, a specialized spandex elastic and is woven with a proprietary weave process. This gives FP more consistent and comfortable feedback and recoil, enhancing both comfort and therapeutic benefits. Size and Price Kinesio Tex Classic comes in one width (2”) and two roll sizes - 13’ single rolls and 103’ bulk rolls FP single rolls are 3 feet longer than Classic at 16’ long and are available in one, two or three-inch widths. FP bulk rolls are 2” wide by 103’ long.  Because of the advanced technology and higher manufacturing costs, Kinesio Tex Gold FP is slightly more expensive than Classic, which at less than $10 for a single roll is an excellent option for those new to taping. Though the tapes have some difference, the application for both remains largely the same. However, due to the lighter weight of FP, there is a small risk of over-stretching the tape during application. Though Classic is still often the go-to for more supportive applications, FP is more highly recommended for medical and rehab settings.

Which is Better – Kinesio Tex Classic or Kinesio FP

Fortunately, with the 2 Kinesio Tape options, it’s not a matter of which is better, it’s simply a matter of deciding which will best suit your needs. The features and pricing of Kinesio Tex Classic make it an idea choice for consumers and those new to taping. It’s slightly heavier weight also makes it the tape of choice for supportive sport applications. Kinesio Tex FP has features that are better utilized by trained clinicians and is generally recommended for health professionals. And for the clinician who can’t decide, there’s a best-of-both-worlds option: Classic and FP can be applied together without any risk of conflict. kinesio-tape-classickinesio-tape-fp   What are the main difference you’ve noticed between Kinesio Tex Classic and Kinesio Tex FP?
